Last night, I was watching the rabbits. And as always, paying more attention to the doe's.
Well, what do I see but the REW doe with a mouth full of hay! They are not due until Saturday at the earliest. But not wanting to upset her, I give her more hay and the nesting box. She was working feverishly. In and out of the box, digging and putting more hay in her mouth than I thought was possible. The funniest part was when all the hay, I had placed in the cage was moved to the box, I would go to give her more and she would stand at the door, with a few pieces of hay in her mouth, and weave back and forth as if to say, " hurry up!!, I need more". I should have taken a picture of her mouth crammed with hay.
So, I decide to check on the Black doe. I place hay in her cage and give her a box. She was so different to the Ree's feverish pace. The Black would only move a couple of pieces at a time. Like she was placing them individually in the nest. She also seem to be choosing just the right pieces, and not all where good enough. At one point she was under the hay, looked like she was in camouflage.
Hopefully these are good signs, and both will have litters this weekend. I was getting worried, we would not have anything for the fairs this summer. I have found out that the county fair is in August, so if they did not take this time we would have time to try again.
We keep you posted if we have new arrivals.
